Along with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the Yazoo City Police Department made two major drug arrests following hours of surveillance at a local house.
Terrandan Morris and Kevin Palmer were both charged federally with the sale and possession of narcotics following their arrest.
Police Chief Terry Gann said the investigation included several hours of surveillance at 519 East Madison Street in Yazoo City.
“We noticed a lot of traffic in and out of the home,” Gann said. “We started to pay attention to that, which prompted us to obtain a search warrant. When you have traffic in and out of home, three minutes at a time, that is typically a good indicator.”
With the assistance of the FBI, local officers seized 308 grams of marijuana, over ten Hydrocodone pills, two firearms, and $5,028.00 in cash.
Gann said both suspects were inside the home at the time of arrest and went into custody peacefully.
Gann added that the FBI does have a healthy presence in Yazoo City at the time, adding that federal charges will result in stiffer penalties.
“Our intention is that anytime we can add federal charges, that adds to stiffer penalties,” Gann said. “We want people to be afraid to commit these crimes in our city. The FBI’s assistance helps us with that. Other unrelated cases are being picked up by the FBI as well. Any case we can charge federally, we are doing so because of the recent gun violence.”
In connection with the federal charges, Gann said the FBI is currently looking into the violent criminal history of local habitual offender Desmond Robinson.
“He was indicted federally for felony possession of a firearm,” Gann said. “He has a very extensive criminal history.”
