A Yazoo County man remains behind bars after allegedly assaulting a female victim and holding a young child in a hostage situation last week.
Jeremy Creech, 36, was charged with kidnapping and domestic violence after a five-hour standoff with local deputies and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, according to Sheriff Jeremy McCoy.
McCoy said no injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred at a home on Highland Drive last Friday around 2:30 a.m.
“Upon arrival at the scene, deputies made contact with a female victim, who had allegedly been assaulted by the suspect,” McCoy said. “The suspect remained inside the residence with a nine-year-old child, who was asleep inside the home.”
McCoy said after deputies contacted Creech, he returned inside the home, refusing to come out or send the child outside to authorities.
“At this point, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations were notified and immediately sent hostage negotiators and S.W.A.T. members,” McCoy said. “Negotiators with M.B.I. successfully persuaded the subject to exit the residence with the child and was then placed under arrest.”
McCoy said the arrest occurred about 7 a.m., about five hours after the initial call to the scene.
“The victim told deputies she believed the suspect was under the influence,” McCoy said. “This remains an ongoing investigation. But it is another successful collaboration, and we appreciate everyone involved in the apprehension of this suspect.”
As of press time, Creech remained in custody at the Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility.
