A suspect in a 2017 Yazoo County murder case, who fled the area after being released on bond, was apprehended in Iowa last week by the U.S. Marshals Service.
After almost six years on the run, Dexter White Jr., 28, of Durant, was arrested by the U.S. Marshalls and Waterloo Police Department, of Iowa, last Thursday. White was wanted in Yazoo County on capital murder and armed robbery charges, stemming from a 2017 shooting that left one victim dead.
White was first arrested in August of 2017 in a murder case that was taken over by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations due to the proximity of the crime at the Yazoo County and Holmes County lines.
According to court records, White was released on a $55,000 bond in the Yazoo County Justice Court in 2017. The bond was set by Judge Pam May, according to records.
Detectives with the Waterloo Police Department developed information last October that White may be residing in the Waterloo, Iowa area. According to a U.S. Marshals press release, the U.S. Marshals Northern Iowa Fugitive Task Force partnered with the Waterloo Police Department in the investigation.
“On the morning of Jan. 25, task force officers narrowed their search to an address in the 400 block of East Arlington Street in Waterloo, Iowa,” the press release said. “Shortly after 2 p.m., White was identified exiting a residence and was subsequently taken into custody.”
White was then taken to the Black Hawk County Jail, where he will remain until extradition to Mississippi.
White was wanted in connection with a 2017 shooting in Yazoo County that left Corey Thomas dead. It happened on Highway 432 near I-55.
Doran Jones, 34, was also charged in connection with the 2017 incident. According to court records, he pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact in August of 2017 and was sentenced to five years behind bars.
