A 15-year-old juvenile passed away at a Jackson hospital yesterday from a gunshot wound to the head, and local investigators continue chasing down leads in connection to the shooting incident that occurred Tuesday night.
Interim Police Chief Capt. Patrick Jaco said officers received reports of gunfire behind Thomas Christian Academy near Twelfth Street around 10 p.m. Tuesday.
“After receiving reports of shots being fired, we also received a report of a body behind Thomas Christian,” Jaco said. “When officers arrived on the scene, a 15-year-old male juvenile was found with a gunshot wound to the head. At that time, the victim still had a pulse and was taken to the local hospital.”
Jaco said the victim was then airlifted to the University Medical Center in Jackson, where he passed away Wednesday morning.
“No arrests have been made yet,” Jaco said. “But we are following leads based off of testimonies and video footage.”
Jaco added that the investigation has yet to uncover any other injuries from the incident.
Jaco also said the local police department is also working with school officials at Yazoo City High School, where it was reported that altercations stemming from the incident have occurred.
