Local police officers have apprehended a juvenile suspect connected to a shooting, two vehicle thefts and a home burglary within Yazoo City.
Interim Police Chief Cpt. Patrick Jaco said the Yazoo City Police Department has been investigating a range of crimes that involve the juvenile suspect. Officers apprehended the suspect today.
“The suspect is tied to a shooting that occurred last night in the Jonestown area,” Jaco said. “He allegedly shot at a vehicle, but there were no injuries reported nor was the vehicle struck by the gunfire.”
Following the suspect’s arrest, Jaco said the investigation linked him to other crimes within the city.
“Before the shooting incident, we were also investigating a home burglary,” Jaco said. “An automatic rifle was reported stolen from the home, and the juvenile was a suspect in that case. The stolen weapon has been recovered and returned to the homeowner.”
Jaco said the suspect is also connected to two vehicle thefts. The first vehicle was reported stolen from Junior Food Mart, and officers located the vehicle near East Third Street and Clay Street before the suspect was arrested. After his arrest and his confession, officers were also able to locate the second vehicle, which was stolen from Willow Wood Apartments, on Pierce Street.
“We have camera footage placing the suspect in the areas with the same clothes he had on at the time of his arrest,” Jaco added.
