Gunfire rang throughout Yazoo City over the weekend with four separate shootings, multiple injuries and one death. And investigators believe all shootings are connected, retaliation stemming from an alleged altercation at a local nightclub.
“I wish they would close every one of these nightclubs down,” said Chief Terry Gann. “All these shootings stemmed from an incident at a nightclub.”
The first shooting occurred on Fourteenth Street during Saturday’s early morning hours, Gann said.
“A female was struck by gunfire four times in the leg,” Gann said. “It was non-life-threatening injuries, but the investigation continues with a person of interest.”
Gann said the investigation uncovered that the Fourteenth Street shooting incident allegedly stemmed from a fight at a local nightclub.
The following evening, around midnight, shots were fired at Twentieth Street and Jerry Clower Boulevard that resulted in two injuries and a later death at the Baptist Medical-Yazoo emergency room.
“That shooting was in retaliation for the Fourteenth Street shooting the night before,” Gann said.
Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers said Jarvis Robinson, 28, was pronounced dead at the local emergency room at 2:53 a.m. from a single gunshot wound.
A third shooting then occurred again on Fourteenth Street with another reported injury. A fourth shooting was reported around 4 a.m. on West Second Street with no injuries.
“These shootings were all connected and in retaliation of each other,” Gann said. “We do have a suspect in custody for questioning, and arrests are coming. If feasible, we will be charging these suspects federally.”
Gann said the injuries from the second and third shootings were life-threatening with the subjects remaining in critical condition as of press time.
