A correctional officer at the local county jail has been charged with bringing contraband into the facility and conspiring with inmates.
Luis Robbins has been charged with introducing contraband into a correctional facility and conspiring to commit a crime.
Simon Stubblefield, with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said Robbins was arrested and charged following an investigation surrounding the recent contraband issues at the Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility.
“During our investigation, we discovered Robbins was bringing contraband into the facility personally,” Stubblefield said. “He was also captured on video surveillance throwing contraband over the facility’s fence.”
Stubblefield said the contraband included cell phones, tobacco and alcohol. He also said the additional conspiracy charges stems from Robbins conspiring with inmates.
“More charges are pending in this investigation,” Stubblefield said.
• In other county arrests, Sandra Nelson, 31, was charged with burglary for allegedly stealing money following a house burglary on Old Benton Road.
“The homeowner pressed charges against Nelson after she observed Nelson entering her home on video surveillance,” Stubblefield said. “The homeowner said money was stolen from her home. As of now, we have not recovered the money.”
Nelson remained behind bars as of press time.
