Suspect charged in Yazoo City murder

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of a woman whose body was discovered inside her Yazoo City apartment home.
Lavonte Ellington was apprehended by the Yazoo City Police Department Wednesday morning in the Tchula area and has been charged with murder, said Chief Kenny Hampton.

Judge clarifies police weapon seizure

Police Chief Kenny Hampton recently announced that his department would be confiscating weapons found on juveniles, holding them within his department and later using or selling the weapons.
But Youth Court Judge Betsy Cotton said Hampton does not have the authority to carry out his new initiative.
