The disbursement of a $10 million bond among the county supervisors left the board divided as to how much each supervisor would be given to complete road paving and repair projects.
Originally, the bond would be divided equally among all five county supervisors, with each receiving $2 million each.
However, during a county board meeting last month, three supervisors voted to divide the $2 million from Supervisor Willie Wright’s portion five ways among the entire board.
Supervisors Lee Moore, David Berry and David Shipp voted to divide Wright’s portion five ways, stating that the other county districts had more miles of road that needed repairs. Supervisor Cobie Collins was not in the board room when the vote was taken.
The division of Wright’s funds would result in each supervisor, including Wright, receiving $400,000. The total breakdown of the bond money included:
• District 1, Supervisor Lee Moore: $2.4 million
• District 2, Supervisor David Berry: $2.4 million
• District 3, Supervisor Willie Wright: $400,000
• District 4, David Shipp: $2.4 million
• District 5, Supervisor Cobie Collins, $2.4 million
The recent bond is the second $10 million bond provided to the county board. Wright used the previous $2 million of his portion to pave and repair several roads within his district, mostly within the city of Yazoo City.
However, the recent action surrounding the second bond arrived with some supervisors stating that there were more miles of road, some described as “deplorable,” within the county that needed repairs.
Within Yazoo County, Wright has about 13 miles of road. District 1 has the largest amount of roads at about 320 miles. District 2 has about 240 miles; and District 4 and District 5 with around 150 to 180 miles each.
