Walking into the local branch of BankPlus, one will often see familiar faces, ready to serve. Robin Cotten is one of those familiar faces, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
“You get those familiar faces,” she said. “You already have relations with them, and they know a little about you it makes it easier. That is what makes working in this community special.”
A Satartia native, Cotten graduated from Bentonia High School before heading off to Hinds Community College. When it came time to consider her career path, she knew she wanted to work with numbers and figures.
“I have always loved working with numbers,” she said. “In previous jobs, I had dealt with deposits and accounts receivable, so I always knew that I wanted to do something that dealt with numbers. I just didn’t know exactly what.”
When a position opened at BankPlus, it seemed like the perfect opportunity for Cotten. She applied for the position in 2016 and has been with the local bank since then.
Cotten started her role at BankPlus as a teller before working her way up to branch manager, which places here in management of customer service employees and tellers.
Aside from working with numbers, Cotten said it is her customers that make her job even more rewarding.
“My customers motivate me,” she said. “As you build that relationship with your customers, you get to know them. Aside from the banking level, some will even open up to me on a more personal level. For instance, they may be going on a vacation, and the next time you see them, you ask about it. If you can remember those kinds of things, you build up a better relationship with those customers. Even if they are here to see me or not, or if you see them out in public, they are going to make a point to speak to you. That is always a joy.”
And it’s that level of personal connection that makes the BankPlus family special to Cotten as well.
“We all can unite when it comes down to it,” she said. “You can depend on each other. If there is bad moment, I know that they are here to help pull you out of it. Just like families, we may not all agree. But when it is all said and done, they will support you as a family would. That is what I can rely on. Overall, as a unit, I can rely on my bank family to be there for me with no doubts.”
Cotten and her husband Jay have one son, Tre, and three grandchildren. And in her free time, she enjoys working in her yard.
“It is relaxing to me,” she said. “You put your heart into it, and with the end result, you will see what you have worked for.”
The same could be said for Cotten. She puts her heart into her role at BankPlus. And her customers see that with the end results of her commitment and service.
