An attempt to smuggle alcohol and marijuana into the local jail was foiled after jail officials and deputies got involved last weekend.
Sheriff Jeremy McCoy said his department received a report last Saturday around 1 a.m. from the Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility that two subjects were noticed near the facility.
“Deputies were dispatched in reference to two subjects, (dressed) in all black, being near the outer perimeter fence,” McCoy said. “After speaking with the jail staff, we were able to locate the reason for them being on the premises.”
That reason was 14 bottles of alcohol and four packages of marijuana. The alcohol was placed in 14 plastic bottles of Sprite and seven plastic bottles of Coca-Cola.
“Deputies thoroughly searched the area but did not come in contact with the two subjects,” McCoy said. “But they were able to get this contraband inside of the fence. We will continue to make every attempt possible to keep this kind of behavior from entering the facility.”
As of press time, no arrests were reported.
