City leaders have eliminated two supervisory leadership posts within the Yazoo City Police Department to hire more certified police officers.
According to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen board minutes, an order was approved to eliminate one captain position and one sergeant position from the local police department and replaced them with two certified police officer positions.
• In other city news, the city of Yazoo City has entered a contract with Meridian Waste Mississippi LLC concerning the city’s garbage collection services. Based on the city’s contract, the new company will assume its local role on May 1 and is slated to continue until April 31, 2026. The contract states that the monthly rate for twice a week, curbside collection, will be $22.39 per unit, per month.
• A 90-day period contracted position has also been approved by the city council that appoints Otha Gilmore to serve within Glenwood Cemetery. At $30 an hour, Gilmore will work 14 days a month at 3-4 hours with additional hours if needed.
