Mayor David Starling said the city’s search for its next police chief will involve the city council and five community members during the interviewing process.
During Monday’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting, Starling said the advertising phase for the position of police chief “is coming to an end.”
“I want the community to know that we, as a board, and five community members will be serving as an interview committee,” Starling said. “Each member of this board will choose one member from their ward as their committee person. The choice is theirs. I get to choose at large. We will all meet and go through the interview process to find the best police chief for Yazoo City.”
Currently, Capt. Patrick Jaco is serving as the city’s interim chief following the resignation of former chief Fred Randle, only ten days after accepting the position. Randle’s short tenure as Yazoo City’s police chief marks the ninth leader of the local police department in eight years.
