Following the resignation of former police chief Terry Gann, veteran law enforcement officer Assistant Chief Patrick Jaco III has been selected to serve as interim chief of the Yazoo City Police Department.
Last week’s appointment by the Board of Mayor and Alderman marks the second time Jaco has been named the department’s interim police chief.
The appointment was made during an emergency special call meeting with the city council last Friday. Jaco’s appointment was approved by Mayor David Starling and Alderman Macklyn Austin. Alderman Jammie McCoy cast the sole opposing vote. Aldermen Charlie Jenkins and Alderwoman Elizabeth Thomas were not present.
Jaco, a Yazoo City resident, has been with the local police department for over a decade, joining the force under the administration of former chief Eric Snow.
