City leaders have approved a bid for the highly anticipated exterior wall repair to the historic Triangle Cultural Center.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen accepted three bids in January to begin the renovation project to the center’s exterior wall, which has been in limbo for over five years. The submitted bids ranged from over a million dollars to about $200,000.
Those three bids submitted included:
United Restoration and Preservation, Inc; $1,530,000
The Lathan Company; $489,500
Structural Waterproofing and Restoration, Inc.; $198,000
During a recent city council meeting, the board approved the bid from Structural Waterproofing and Restoration, Inc. for $198,000.
Alderwoman Elizabeth Thomas questioned whether the project would include ceiling repair to the historic center.
“I believe just the wall was within this scope of work so I can’t say about the entire ceiling,” replied Mayor David Starling. “If they get in there and something falls within that scope of work, then it will get done. But, again, I am assuming.”
During a board meeting held last November, Shane Correro, of Willis Engineering, told city leaders that the Triangle project will be a “springtime project.”
“Belinda (Stewart) said that you need to be getting the roof checked out more than anything, just to prevent any more leaks,” Correro said, during that November meeting. “This project is just for that one wall.”
According to the bid, the project only covers the Triangle’s “north side façade and exterior restoration.” Repairs to the local historical center have made headlines for over five years.
