Yazoo City and Yazoo County taxpayers are getting some good news as neither local government plans to increase ad valorem taxes for the upcoming year.
The city of Yazoo City’s tax millage for the upcoming 2023-2024 fiscal year will remain the same at 85.55 mills.
The city of Yazoo City is now operating with projected total budget revenue of $6,891,230.00. Of that amount, 52.12 percent, or $3,591,730 of such revenue, is obtained through ad valorem taxes. For the next fiscal year, the proposed budget has a total projected revenue of $6,998,609.78. Of that amount, 52.85 percent, or $3,699,109.78, is proposed to be financed through a total ad valorem tax levy.
The Board of Mayor and Alderman will adopt its proposed budget and proposed tax levies for fiscal year 2024 on Sept. 14.
Within the Yazoo County proposed budget for the upcoming 2023-2024 fiscal year, there will be a slight decrease in the tax millage rate. Last year, the total millage rate was 117.69 mills. The upcoming fiscal year will see a total millage rate of 117.60.
County Administrator Donna Kraft said the county’s millage rate breaks down with the county mills at 70.68 and the county school district mills at 46.8.
“Taxpayers will not see a tax increase unless their property’s assessed value changes,” she added.
For the next fiscal year, the county’s proposed budget has a total projected revenue of $22,847,059. Of that amount, 60.65 percent, or $13,826,624.92 is proposed to be financed through ad valorem tax.
The Board of Supervisors approved its proposed budget last Tuesday.
