A suspect wanted out of Hinds County on carjacking charges was apprehended in Yazoo County last week after a dangerous chase through the community.
Kalveonte Moore, 20, remains in custody at the Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility. He was arrested last Wednesday and charged with fleeing from law enforcement and possession of stolen property.
“Investigator Antwan Jones observed the suspect’s vehicle traveling northbound on Highway 49 as it entered the Yazoo City limits,” said Sheriff Jeremy McCoy. “Deputies quickly made contact with the vehicle, but the driver refused to pull over so a pursuit was initiated.”
McCoy added that the vehicle Moore was driving had been reported stolen and has since been recovered.
“Thanks to the coordinated efforts of multiple agencies, the pursuit was successfully concluded without injury,” he said. “All officers involved are safe, and Moore is currently being held at the Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility.”
Moore has a criminal history within the local community. He made headlines in 2021 when he was the second juvenile suspect charged with capital murder and home invasion in connection with the murder of 65-year-old Sylvester Young. He was only 15 years old at the time.
However, according to court documents, Moore entered a guilty plea for manslaughter and grand larceny in Yazoo County Circuit Court. Judge Jannie M. Lewis-Blackmon sentenced him to ten years, with two years to serve. He was also placed on five years of supervised probation with three years of unsupervised probation.
