Yazoo County Chancery Clerk Quint Carver said he will be retiring at the end of the year, leaving his post open after about a year into his recent reelection.
Carver made the announcement during the Yazoo County Board of Supervisors meeting on Monday. He presented a letter to the board and made a public announcement.
“I am officially announcing my retirement at the end of December,” Carver said. “I will no longer be your chancery clerk.”
Carver’s letter to the board states that his retirement will take place on Dec. 31.
“I wish to express my deepest appreciation of the voters of Yazoo County for their vote of confidence for the last 17 years,” the letter continued.
Carver also said Hattie Green, one of his clerks, will also be retiring. The two retirements will leave one original employee within the chancery clerk’s office with Deputy Clerk April Adams.
“You might want to consider my deputy clerk (Adams) since she is the only one with nay experience in my office, but that is strictly up to you,” Carver said, to the county board.
A special election for the chancery clerk post would be held in November of 2025. After accepting Carver’s retirement, the board approved the appointment of Adams to serve in the post until the special election.
“I will do whatever I can to help her from Jan. 1, 2025 until she is comfortable operating on her own,” Carver’s letter concluded.
