A Yazoo County voting precinct has been relocated in preparation for the upcoming general election in November.
Circuit Clerk Robert Coleman said the voting precinct located at the former Boys and Girls Club will be moved to the library of the former Webster Street Elementary School.
“Most of you know about the situation with the Boys and Girls Club,” Coleman said, during Monday’s Board of Supervisors meeting. “Of course, they are pretty much going to shut that building down. But I talked with the school district, and they have agreed to let us utilize the Webster Street school library to replace that precinct at the Boys and Girls Club.”
Supervisor Willie Wright, whose district is included within that precinct, said he would assist in getting the word out to voters in that precinct.
“We will go through the process of mailing out the letter and the cards to all the residents,” Coleman said. “We are going to do everything we need to do to inform the people of that precinct.”
In other election news, Coleman also announced the resignation of election commissioner Tim Mood.
“He was the election commissioner for District 2, and he resigned,” Coleman said. “Friday was his last day. I talked with (Supervisor) David Better about reappointing Chilah Boddy. However, a special election for that post will be a part of the November election.”
Berry made the motion to reappoint Boddy to Mood’s post as election commissioner with no opposition from the remaining board.
“She is already experienced and has done a really good job in the past,” Berry added.
