The body of a man with multiple gunshot wounds was found inside a vehicle near City Hall early this morning in Yazoo City.
Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers said Richard Baker, 36, was pronounced dead on the scene around 5 a.m. this morning. He added that the case is being investigated as a murder with assistance from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations.
"A jailor was bringing breakfast from the county jail to the juvenile detention center when he noticed a vehicle on Jefferson Street," Shivers said. "After discovering a body inside, he called to report it to the police department."
Shiver said he believes the man had not been deceased long, maybe about an hour.
"Paramedics pulled the body out of the car and used a heart monitor to detect a heart beat," he said. "No heart beat was detected, and he was pronounced dead at that time."
