Three bids were submitted to the city council last week for the highly anticipated exterior wall repair to the historic Triangle Cultural Center.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen will be reviewing the submitted bids that could lead the city of Yazoo City one step closer to beginning the renovation project to the center’s exterior wall, which has been in limbo for over five years. The submitted bids range from over a million dollars to about $200,000.
Those three bids submitted include:
United Restoration and Preservation, Inc; $1,530,000
The Lathan Company; $489,500
Structural Waterproofing and Restoration, Inc.; $198,000
Shane Correro, of Willis Engineering, told city leaders last November that the Triangle project will be a “springtime project.”
“Belinda (Stewart) said that you need to be getting the roof checked out more than anything, just to prevent any more leaks,” Correro said, during that November meeting. “This project is just for that one wall.”
During that same November board meeting, Alderwoman Elizabeth Thomas expressed reservations that five years of rainwater within the Triangle Center is sure to present more damage prior to the initial issue five years ago.
“That building is going to fall,” she said. “It has been raining in there for so long. It is supposed to be a historical building that is preserved, but it doesn’t look like it is being preserved.”
According to the bid, the project only covers the Triangle’s “north side façade and exterior restoration.”
Repairs to the local historical center have made headlines for over five years. Last week’s submitted bids will be reviewed by city officials as the community keeps its fingers crossed on repairing one of Yazoo City’s most historic structures.
