Betty Jean Elledge, age 85, left to be with her Savior on Friday, December 26, 2025. She was born Friday, April 19, 1940, and lived a life marked love, and quiet faithfulness.
Betty lived out the Gospel in both word and deed. Those who knew her experienced the fruits of the Spirit through her life of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. She was known for her friendly face, happy smile, and genuine kindness, offering warmth and grace to everyone she encountered.
Gifted in music from a young age, Betty was a talented pianist who played beautifully by ear. Gospel music filled her heart and her home, and through music she worshiped the Lord whom she loved so deeply. Her piano was not just an instrument, but a testimony and offering of praise that reflected her lifelong devotion to Christ.
Betty dearly loved the Lord, her family, and especially her husband, Recil Hammett Elledge. She married Recil on January 29, 1961, after only three months of knowing him - a leap of faith that blossomed into a devoted and enduring marriage. Recil preceded her in death on October 24, 2024, and Betty often spoke of the joy of seeing him again.
Now reunited with her beloved husband and fully healed in the presence of Jesus Christ, Betty’s faith has become sight. She leaves behind a legacy of godliness, music, kindness, and steadfast love a life well lived to the glory of God.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:23)
Betty is survived by her son, Alan Elledge of Yazoo City, Mississippi; her daughter, Pam McPhail (David) of Yazoo City, Mississippi; her grandchildren, John David McPhail (Rachel), Michael McPhail (Madeline), Liddie McPhail, and great granddaughters, Ellie and Virginia.
