Alfred was a member of Central Baptist Church in Bentonia, where he was often seen handing out candy to all the children and ladies. He loved going to church and would often share stories about his “family” there.
He became a postal carrier in the mid-60s in Yazoo City and continued working for the Postal Service throughout the remainder of his career while residing in both Deer Park and Baytown, Texas. In the late 90s he returned to his hometown of Bentonia, where he raised a beautiful garden with fruit trees as well as goats and native sheep. He was an avid sportsman enjoying both hunting and fishing. On Saturdays, he was usually found watching a football, baseball or basketball game. As an avid storyteller, he told many tales about his numerous family and friends, some of which may or may not be repeated.
Special thanks to the staff at Baptist Hospital, Yazoo City; Renee Ward and staff; and Olivia of Legacy Hospice, for their help during the time of his declining health.
A celebration of Alfred’s life will be held at Central Baptist Church in Bentonia, on Saturday, March 15 at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
