One city alderman said that public safety within Yazoo City is his top priority, adding that he was the sole opposing vote against the recent appointment of Patrick Jaco as the city’s new police chief.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen appointed Patrick Jaco, who has served as the interim police chief since last October, during a special call meeting on Dec. 30. However, Alderman Jammie McCoy was the sole opposing vote to this appointment.
McCoy told The Herald he had concerns over the direction of the Yazoo City Police Department, adding that he acts upon in what he believes are the best interests of his constituents within Ward 3.
McCoy said he visited several residents within his ward, adding that public safety was the main talking point among his constituents.
“Just about every house I visited had bullet holes in their vehicles and homes,” he said, during Monday’s city council meeting. “And these are ordinary citizens. Safety is the number one concern with me. I went to four different houses, and they all showed me bullet holes.”
