Delta State University congratulates students named to the fall 2025 President's List. These students achieved a 3.80 or better GPA, based on a 4.0 scale, while completing at least 12 semester hours of coursework with no incomplete grades or grades lower than a C.
Local students include Shelby Allen, of Bentonia, a Health Care Administration major; and Elizabeth Carpenter, of Yazoo City, a Accountancy major.

Earlier this year, colleges in no income tax states used that as a selling point when trying to snag players in the transfer portal. Mississippi lawmakers say the Magnolia State needs to remain competitive in that arena.
In this new era of college football so heavily focused on the almighty dollar, schools in states with no income tax have sought to use that to their benefit when recruiting players.

Another bill that would have allowed terminally ill patients to use medical cannabis gummies while being treated in a hospital did not pass the Senate Public Health Committee this week.
The Senate passed a bill out of the Public Health Committee this week that could allow people suffering from neurological conditions or addiction to receive Ibogaine treatment, while killing another bill that would allow terminally ill patients to receive medical cannabis gummies while being treated in a hospital.

A telephone threat was called in to Germantown Middle School today. Parents were notified through normal channels as law enforcement thoroughly investigated the threat and cleared the school to resume normal operations. Germantown High School also implemented heightened security measures out of an abundance of caution due to proximity and has since returned to its regular activities. Both schools will continue as normal tomorrow.

Local students include Delancy Anderson, of Yazoo City, in the Pharm.D. program; Destiny Bush, of Yazoo City, in the B.S.B.E. in Biomedical Engineering program; Kinley Goodson, of Bentonia, in the B.Accy. in Accountancy program; and Jamya Ellis, of Bentonia, in the B.A. in Allied Health Studies program. All students on the Chancellor's Honor Roll earned a semester GPA of 3.75-4.00.
