The viewing of Don. E. McCoy will be held on Jan. 17 at McCoy Elementary School from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Homecoming service will be held Jan. 17 at McCoy Elementary School at 11 a.m. Burial will follow on Jan. 19 at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Century Funeral Home.

I estimate I called over 800 games during my 38 years of officiating high school football. I still run the game clock and occasionally assist with replays. I have lost track of the number of times I have been asked over the past few days what I thought about the final call of the Fiesta Bowl.
A little background is helpful here. I am a Mississippi State graduate. For the 18 years before I enrolled at State, I was a huge Ole Miss fan. And, even today, many of my best friends and referee buddies are Ole Miss grads.

I told Mimi last night that I sure do get myself into some crazy situations. She looked at me like “Really?” We have only known each other for 40 years, so she’s been a part of most of the nutty stories. This will be the beginning of one of the nuttier ones only this time she won’t be with me. By the time this Northside Sun reaches the mailboxes it will be my birthday, Friday the 16th, I will also be deep in Uganda on the equator. Yep, I am off on another life-changing experience but this time with my mother.

Dr. Robert Sanders, Superintendent of Education for Simpson County, was a guest at the Magee Lions Club and shared planned renovations and upgrades to our schools. He also responded to questions on attendance and school choice initiatives. Dr. Sanders was the guest of Lion Marlan Jones.

Hayley Oldham and Daygon Williams were honored this fall with an engagement party in the Eastover home of Liz and Art Spratlin.
Co-hostesses and hosts were Ben Watson, Clay and Jennifer Gunn, Rick and Emily Dye, Ashley and Chris Maddux, Margaret and Peyton Smith, and Martha and Davis Frye.
The couple were wed October 18 in Oxford. They are making their home in Jackson.
Parents of the bride are Carol Gary, Cathy and Trey Oldham. Williams is the son of Angel Williams.

Changes in federal financial aid that will become effective later this year could result in medical students, who find themselves burdened with loans to pay for their education choosing to practice higher-paying specialties instead of primary care, which would further impact medical care in underserved areas of the state.
“The big worry is it will drive a financial pressure already there,” said Dr. Brent Smith, a member of the Advocacy Committee of the Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians.

The community mourns the passing of Phil Williams, a beloved local banker and civic leader, who passed away following an automobile accident in Yazoo County last week.
The accident occurred around 3:18 p.m. on Jan. 8 at the intersection of Highway 49 and Highway 433 in the Bentonia area.
Williams, the driver of a GMC Canyon, was traveling northbound on Highway 49 when his vehicle collided with a school bus that was traveling westbound on Highway 433 through the intersection, according to Sheriff Jeremy McCoy.
