Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced, in partnership with Ring (an Amazon Company) and the Mississippi Coalition Against Domestic Violence (MCADV), a new community initiative to support domestic violence survivors in Mississippi by providing 1,000 Ring X Line Devices that include a Basic Protect Subscription. Additionally, Ring will provide a $25,000 donation to help support MCADV's mission and ongoing impact across the State. Photos and b-roll from the event can be found HERE.
“This partnership is about giving survivors the tools, support, and added peace of mind as they work toward healing,” said Attorney General Lynn Fitch. “These cameras are an important part of a safety plan, so instead of fearing every knock or doorbell ring, a survivor can know exactly who is on the other side. Thank you to Ring and the MCADV for your commitment to protecting survivors in Mississippi and ensuring that we can hold offenders accountable."
“At Ring, we believe in making neighborhoods safer and making technology accessible to everyone,” said Raquel Medrano, Amazon Public Policy. “Since 2021, we’ve supported organizations that support domestic violence survivors with technology and tools that help provide an extra layer of peace of mind. We are proud to team up with the Mississippi Attorney General's Office and MCADV to ensure that Amazon technology continues to support the needs of survivors. We hope this donation will help support community safety throughout Mississippi.”
"We know that leaving an abusive relationship is often the most dangerous time for a survivor. The simple ability to see who is at the door, to have clear documentation of threats, or to alert law enforcement quickly, can literally mean the difference between danger and safety, life or death," said Joy Jones, Executive Director of the Mississippi Coalition Against Domestic Violence. "It is an honor for MCADV to partner with Amazon and General Fitch as we come together to strengthen safety, provide support, and hope for survivors of domestic violence across our state."
Domestic violence incidents are among the most frequent and dangerous situations that law enforcement officers police. General Fitch's domestic violence training, which is taught at all seven of Mississippi's Law Enforcement Officers' Training Academies, includes education on state and federal laws, tactical awareness, and live scenarios. In addition, General Fitch created an officer flip book for domestic violence law, and created the State’s Domestic Violence Registry (MSDVR) and Protection Order Registry (POR), the nation’s first registry for both criminal and civil protection orders, to aid officers in their work related to domestic violence. These tools for law enforcement are available on the Attorney General’s new mobile app, AGO in Action. The app also includes resources for victims of domestic violence and other crimes, including an interactive, step-by-step program to help draft a domestic abuse protection order.
To date, Ring has generously donated over 35,000 Ring Video Doorbells and Outdoor Cams to over 800 nonprofit organizations across the country and federally recognized tribal organizations whose primary mission is to support domestic violence survivors. Organizations provide these devices to survivors who are interested in using them as a part of their safety planning.
