Although the results remain unofficial, last Tuesday’s special election for Yazoo County’s chancery clerk post shows an overwhelmingly decisive win with interim clerk April Adams.
Yazoo County Circuit Clerk Robert Coleman said the results should be certified this week. During last week’s special election, 12.57 percent of voter turnout was reported at the polls to determine the county’s next chancery clerk.
The voting results include interim clerk April Adams with 2,056 votes against challenger Leticia Green Carmichael with 331 votes.
“My heart is so full of appreciation and gratitude toward each and everyone who took time to get out and vote,” Adams said. “I thank you for allowing me to serve the great residents of Yazoo City and Yazoo County. This was amazing journey, and it would not be possible without each person.”
Adams has served as interim clerk following the resignation of former Chancery Clerk Quint Carver in December of 2024. Her tenue spans several years within the county office.
Coleman said Adams will also hold the chancery clerk’s post until the county’s next general election, which will be held in 2027.
Last week’s special election also marked the first time Yazoo County utilized electronic poll books, which Coleman said worked well with local voters for the first time. Although the printed poll books can be used along with the iPads for the first election process, the printed poll books will eventually be eliminated.
