Yazoo County cruised through the first round of the playoffs defeating North Panola 12-1 at home and 15-0 on the road.
Senior pitcher TJ Rials earned the win in game one, striking out 13 batters while allowing just one hit over five innings.
Yazoo County took an early lead when TJ Rials hit an RBI single, Myron Straughter drove in a run with a fielder’s choice, and Will Andrews hit a two-run single.
The Panthers built on the lead in the second inning.
Parker Barron and Gabe Shaffer both hit two-run singles. Andrews and James Patterson were both walked with the bases loaded.
Andres went 1-for-2 with three RBI to help lead the Panthers at the plate. Gabe Shaffer went 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Myron Straughter, Gaelan Shaffer and Patterson also had hits for Yazoo County.
In game two Gave Shaffer drove in four runs on three hits to help lead the way to a 15-0 win. He had RBI singles in the first and second innings and drove in two runs with a single in the fourth.
Barron earned the win, striking out seven and giving up just one hit in the shutout.
Graelan and Gabe Shaffer both went 3-for-3. Gabe drove in four runs, and Graelan drove in three.
Barron went 2-for-3 with two RBI. TJ Rials went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Chris Rials and Josh Snow each had a hit and an RBI. Cameron Williams also added a hit for the Panthers.
The second round of the playoffs will get much tougher as the Panthers will take on Mooreville.
Mooreville is 22-8 on the season and defeated Belmont 11-1 and 18-0 in the first round of the playoffs.
