After a successful first season the Yazoo Youth Basketball League is gearing up for an even better second year.
The league is open to girls and boys ages 5-13.
Registration for the league is Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon at the Wardell Leach Recreational Complex. Registration will also be held on Saturday, May 14 at the same time and location.
The cost is $35 per child.
Games will be played at the Woolfolk Middle School gymnasium on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Volunteer coaches and referees are also needed.
For more information contact Charles Gates at 571-5557, Jamie McCoy at 590-6078 or Seneca Anderson at 763-8402.
There is also an effort being organized to form a Yazoo City pee wee football team that would compete in the Jackson Pee Wee League.
Rev. Joe Freeman said he hopes the team will set the stage for Yazoo to have its own league.
“Yazoo City used to have a great pee wee football league, and I enjoyed coaching for it,” Freeman said. “It would be a positive activity for our local youth, and I think we can get youth football back in Yazoo City.”
Details about tryouts and volunteer opportunities will be available soon.
