Yazoo City will celebrate the Fourth of July weekend with a variety of activities this weekend.
The weekend kicks off with a class reunion parade at 10 a.m. Philadelphia Eagles star and Yazoo City native Fletcher Cox will serve as the parade’s grand marshal. The theme for this year’s parade is “It’s Your Thang! Do What You Want to Do!”
Lineup begins at 9 a.m. on Mike Espy drive and Grand Avenue. Parking for those participating will be in the First Baptist Church parking lot.
There will be live music beginning at 7 p.m. at the Wardell Leach Recreational Complex. Scheduled performers include DJ Ice Dog, the John Horton Blues Band and Jamie Isonhood.
A fireworks show will begin at 8:30 p.m. at the complex.
On Sunday night at 6 p.m. “Yaz Summer Blast” festivities will be held downtown on Main Street. “We are welcoming everyone to come downtown to listen to blues, jazz, pop, and R&B music,” said Mayor Diane Delaware. “Vendors will set up downtown, including food and arts & crafts vendors.”
This is the second year the city has hosted Fourth of July festivities. Last year’s event attracted a large crowd, and many native Yazooans are expected to return home this weekend.
