She was hit by a vehicle and left to die after attempting to walk for help from her stranded vehicle, and investigators are trying to determine who is responsible.
Susan Rowland of Canton was found dead on the side of Miss. Highway 432 near 1-55 in Yazoo County.
Rowland apparently was involved in a minor accident in her Chevrolet Tahoe that caused her to get stuck in the mud sometime Saturday night or Sunday morning.
She left the Tahoe to walk for help and was struck by an unknown vehicle. The driver of that vehicle left the scene without calling anyone for help or reporting the accident.
Emergency responders received a call around 7:30 a.m. reporting a pedestrian was down.
Officers later found Rowland’s pet dog still inside her vehicle.
No suspects have been identified in this case.
Anyone with any information is urged to call the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department at 745-5611 or Crimestoppers at 746-TIPS.
