A Vaughan man will serve 15 years in prison after being convicted as a habitual offender of possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Paul Barton, 40, was convicted Wednesday by a Yazoo County jury.
Circuit Court Judge Jannie Lewis-Blackmon sentenced Barton to serve five years without the possibility of parole for possession of a stolen firearm and 10 years without possibility of parole for the possession of a firearm by a convicted felon charge.
Lewis-Blackmon ruled that the sentences must be served consecutively, which means Barton will serve a total of 15 years.
District Attorney Akillie Malone-Oliver said that Barton had previous felony convictions, which led to him receiving a tougher sentence.
Sheriff Jake Sheriff said that Barton was arrested and charged on March 21.
