Two people believed to have been intoxicated were involved in two separate vehicle crashes last week, resulting in a few victims being hospitalized.
Within Yazoo City, William Hood III was charged with driver under the influence after he crashed into the back of a vehicle on Jerry Clower Boulevard near Broadway last weekend.
Cpt. William Nevels, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said the vehicle struck by Hood was occupied by several passengers with some being hospitalized.
“We believe the suspect was intoxicated at the time of the accident,” Nevels said. “He struck the victim’s vehicle from the rear. The case is still under investigation to determine the exact injuries of the victim and the suspect’s blood alcohol level.”
Within Yazoo County, deputies charged Shawn Pruett with driving under the influence after she struck a vehicle head-on on Graball Road around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said the victim were juveniles, and no injuries were reported in the crash.
“We are taking these DUI cases very seriously, and we are cracking down on people drinking and driving,” Gann said. “Drinking and driving is very much a crime, and we are pursuing these cases aggressively.”
