A potential gun sale was interrupted last weekend when a convicted felon led deputies on a high-speed chase and was later found with prescription pills and pot.
Mersenin Taylor, 34, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, felony fleeing, suspended driver’s license and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said a tip involving a possible gun sale led deputies to Taylor on 20th Street last Saturday.
“He fled from deputies, and a pursuit was led through town,” Gann said. “After close encounters with several other vehicles, he was apprehended on Jefferson Street.”
Gann said there were no injuries reported during the chase.
“We found him with eight Xanax pills and a misdemeanor amount of marijuana,” Gann said. “We also found him in possession of a handgun. We later discovered he was a convicted felon with several felony charges in his past.”
As of press time, Taylor remained in the Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility.
