Two separate traffic stops last week led deputies on chases that resulted in two drug arrests.
In the first incident, Demarion Moorehead, 24, was charged with possession of marijuana, felony fleeing and switched tag.
Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said deputies stopped Moorehead in the Four Points area for a switched tag on his vehicle. It was at that point, a short chase ensued.
“The chase went through the parking lot of Save-A-Lot and onto Jerry Clower Boulevard, Twelfth Street and Grady Avenue,” Gann said. “It was at the intersection of Grady and Twelfth that Moorehead crashed into a stop sign and pole. A short foot pursuit followed, when he was quickly apprehended.”
Gann said Moorehead was the only person inside the vehicle, and no injuries were reported during the chase.
“Inside his vehicle, we found about 57 grams of marijuana,” Gann said.
In the second incident, Owen Young, 18, was charged with possession of marijuana, driving under the influence and felony fleeing.
Gann said Young was stopped at a safety checkpoint on Highway 49, south of Bentonia.
“After asking him for his driver’s license, Young fled the scene in his vehicle,” Gann said. “A pursuit followed with Young crashing on Wilson Holmes Road where he was apprehended.”
