A routine traffic stop led to a high-speed chase with a suspect who later assaulted three deputies.
William Ashley was charged with felony fleeing and three counts of simple assault on a law enforcement officer.
Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said deputies attempted to pull Ashley over in the Four Points area for a broken tail light.
“That is when the pursuit began and did not end until Judkins Road, where he wrecked his vehicle,” Gann said. “A brief foot pursuit followed, but he was apprehended.”
At the time of his arrest, Ashley was charged with two counts of simple assault on a law enforcement officer. Another assault charge was added during questioning.
“The third assault charge was added after he attacked me while I was attempting to question him about televisions found in his car,” Gann said. “We later found that the televisions were reported stolen out of Madison County.”
Ashley remained in jail as of press time.
