Two suspects have been charged with the murder of Billy Ray Peeples, who was beaten to death earlier this summer.
Atoya "Toy" Savell, 37, and Victor Manor, 31, were both charged with capital murder in connection with the death of Peeples, also known as “the Peanut Man.”
Police Chief Ron Sampson said investigators followed a number of developing leads following the discovery of Peeples on June 11.
“With the assistance of the district attorney’s office, we found enough concrete evidence that led to the issuing of these warrants,” Sampson said. “The investigation also continues with other people who possibly aided and embedded in this case.”
Peeples was discovered June 11 inside a Jerry Clower Boulevard building with head wounds after friends reported last seeing him the previous Friday. He died June 19 after remaining unresponsive for over a week following those head injuries. An autopsy performed at a state laboratory confirmed that he was “definitely beaten.”
Savell was arrested noon on Wednesday on Davis Street. Manor was apprehended several hours later by police officers.
Both suspects remained in jail as of press time.
Sampson said his department will continue to investigate the case, however.
