After an altercation inside a local automotive parts store, an employee chased his alleged attackers while firing shots at their fleeing vehicle.
Corey Cotton was charged with two counts of aggravated assault after officers arrested him at O’Reilly’s Auto Parts on Jerry Clower Boulevard last Friday.
Capt. William Nevels, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said there was one injury reported following the shooting that stemmed from a previous altercation at a nightclub.
The victim, who was the passenger in the fleeing vehicle, was struck by gunfire in his right hand.
“This whole incident stemmed from a previous altercation at a nightclub,” Nevels said. “One of the men involved got another one of his friends to join him by approaching Cotton at his place of employment, which was O’Reilly’s Auto Parts. A physical altercation breaks out inside the store with fellow employees breaking up the fight.”
The victim and his friend then fled the scene, driving off in their vehicle when Cotton fired shots at the vehicle as it sped off from the store.
With two passengers inside the vehicle, Nevels said the charges were upgraded to two counts of aggravated assault.
