Ward 4 in Yazoo City is much brighter at night thanks to new LED lighting installed by the Public Service Commission.
Mayor Diane Delaware said that brighter street lights will soon be installed across the city.
“Yazoo City has been dark for a long time so we have quietly arranged by working together with the Public Service Commission to become a smart city,” Delaware said. “That means we will have technology-based LED lighting across all of our city.”
Delaware said work is beginning to upgrade lines in Ward 3, and then the project will expand to Ward 1 and Ward 2.
“Yazoo City will be one of the first cities in Mississippi, and one of the first cities in the nation, to have transferred all of the old yellow high pressure sodium lighting to 21st century lighting. We must thank the Public Service Commission of Yazoo City for being enlightened and making this move.”
Delaware said that the new digital lighting sets the stage for other opportunities, such as wireless internet access across the city.
