One of the two men charged in connection with a Dec. 2 murder case that authorities believe was staged to look like an accident is free on bond.
Dr. Larry Cooper, 67, was released after posting bond.
Justice Court Judge Pam May set bond for Cooper and John May at $100,000 each during their initial appearance Wednesday.
Cooper and May are both charged with conspiracy, hindering prosecution and accessory after the fact in connection with the murder of Roger Lee Scruggs Jr., 44, of Brandon.
Cooper was arrested when he reported to work at the Greenwood-Leflore Hospital in Greenwood.
Scruggs was a U.S. Navy veteran who is survived by his wife, four children and two grandchildren.
Sheriff Jake Sheriff said the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is taking the lead on the case because the murder is believed to have happened outside of Yazoo County, and the suspects reside outside the county.
Additional suspects are being sought in connection with this case.
