Two men suspected of being connected with the murder of a Navy veteran and attempting to make it look like an accident spent Christmas in jail.
Agents of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and Yazoo County deputies arrested two men in connection with the murder of Roger Scruggs of Brandon.
John May, 57, of 236 Archer Street, Jackson and Dr. Larry Cooper, 67, of 5967 Huntview Drive, Jackson have been charged with conspiracy, hindering prosecution and accessory after the fact of murder in connection to the murder of Roger Scruggs of Brandon.
Scruggs’ body was found off of Wildwood Road in Yazoo County on December 2.
Chief Investigator Terry Gann said that it appeared that someone attempted to make Scrugg’s death appear to be the result of an ATV accident, but investigators quickly determined that his injuries were not consistent with the way he at first appeared to have been killed.
“This was not how he died,” Gann said. “He had blunt force trauma to the face, but the injuries are not consistent with an ATV accident.”
Cooper, who serves as a contract physician at the Greenwood Leflore Hospital in Greenwood, was arrested at the hospital.
May and Cooper are being held in the Yazoo County Correctional Facility awaiting their initial court appearance, which is scheduled for today.
The investigation is continuing.
