No arrests have yet been made after a Yazoo City man was murdered at a local apartment complex over the holiday weekend.
Alfred M. Coleman, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene from what appears to be a stab wound at Magnolia Crossing Apartments on West Broadway around 4:30 a.m. Monday.
Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers said the case is being handled as a homicide.
Chief Jeff Curtis said it is still too early into the investigation to release much information on the city’s sixth murder of the year.
“The case is still under investigation, and I am actually meeting with my investigative division this morning,” Curtis said on Tuesday morning. “But no arrests have been made as of now.”
Many of the violent incidents that have taken place this year have been related to late night activities in nightclubs or event centers. Curtis said that is not the case with Coleman’s murder.
“This was not related to one of the club scenes,” he said. “We feel like we know the motive, but I just can’t go into those details until the investigation goes further.”
Friends mourning Coleman’s death remembered him for being involved in church and for being a talented singer.
