A Yazoo City man was found murdered at his home on West Eleventh Street Tuesday afternoon.
Anthony Terrell Tyler, 36, is believed to have been killed Tuesday or late Monday evening.
Investigators are releasing few details about the crime at this time.
“We’re working with the State Crime Lab and we are going to have to wait for some lab results,” said Police Chief Jeff Curtis. “We had personnel from the State Crime Lab assist us with collecting evidence at the scene, and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is assisting us with the investigation.”
Investigators remained at Tyler’s home for several hours looking for clues.
“We have conducted several interviews,” Curtis said. “We’re still working to establish a motive.”
Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers said no details on the cause of death are being released at this time due to the nature of the investigation. Shivers did say, however, that he did not provide the information reported by a television news station claiming that Tyler was shot.
"At no time have I ever stated that the victim was shot," Shivers said.
Shivers estimated that Tyler was killed within 12 hours of the time when his body was discovered.
Tyler’s murder marks the fifth homicide in Yazoo City in 2016.
Thursday’s National Day of Prayer service at the Yazoo County Courthouse attracted its largest crowd ever as local ministers urged Yazooans to come together to pray for the violence to end in the community.
