A Yazoo County man remains in jail on a million-dollar bond after he allegedly assaulted and raped a woman, kidnapped her and her three-year-old child and attacked an elderly man.
Calvin May, 41, was charged with rape, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of kidnapping and burglary.
Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said May and the victim were previously living together, but a recent break-up led to the incident last Sunday.
“The victim went to the other victim’s home to seek refuge from May,” Gann said. “She was basically trying to hide from him after he sent numerous text messages asking her to return.”
Gann said May discovered the location of the Eden home where the victim was staying with a 78-year-old man.
“The male victim pulled up at the home and saw that May was there,” Gann said. “The male victim got out with his handgun, trying to help the female victim. That was when the suspect knocked him unconscious for a moment.”
Gann said May had entered the home and assaulted the female victim as well.
“He beat her up really bad,” Gann said. “He then grabbed her arm and drug her out the door. She was able to grab her child.”
Gann said May then forced the victim and her toddler into a vehicle.
“He made her drive around the county, trying to elude us,” Gann said. “At some point, she was able to talk him into allowing her to drop the child off at the child’s father’s house.”
After dropping the child off, Gann said May allegedly raped the victim in the car.
“He supposedly made her take her clothes off and sexually assaulted her,” Gann said. “After that, he told her to take him to the Orbit store so that he could purchase cigarettes.”
When May exited the vehicle, the victim drove away and went to the Yazoo City Police Department.
Gann said May has a history of domestic violence issues. Although he was never charged with a felony, Gann said deputies were called to his home on numerous occasions.
“The victim and the suspect have had many fights where we were called out,” Gann said. “She would never press charges, however.”
Gann said the elderly man was also taken to the hospital and treated after the incident. He was released later that evening
