A Yazoo City man remains behind bars with no bond after allegedly driving over another man in his vehicle, as well as assaulting him during the altercation.
The victim remains in stable but critical condition following last Saturday’s incident.
Walter Anfield Sr., of 404 Webster St., was charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle.
Capt. Tilmon Clifton, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said the incident occurred about 7:20 p.m. Sept. 9. on Martin Luther King Drive.
“Officers were dispatched in reference to a male subject who was hit by a vehicle driven by Anfield,” Clifton said. “Upon arrival, officers met with witnesses who stated they saw the victim being hit by an SUV. A juvenile child also witnessed the incident, confirming with law enforcement the description of the vehicle.”
Clifton said witnesses stated that after the victim was first struck by the vehicle, Anfield exited the SUV and assaulted the victim.
“Witnesses said Anfield then ran over him a second time,” Clifton said. “The reason behind the assault is unknown at this time.”
Clifton said the victim received medical attention, and Anfield was also taken to a Jackson hospital following the incident. Anfield was shortly arrested by Yazoo officers upon leaving that hospital.
Anfield remained in jail as of press time with no bond.
