Waste Pro, the company contracted out to handle garbage collection within Yazoo City, said the card mailed to citizen residents detailing the new collection system is not entirely accurate.
A representative with Waste Pro said they did not prepare the informational cards that have been distributed to Yazoo City residents. They added that their office had received several phone calls from residents concerned about garbage being collected only once a week, which appeared on the mailed notice.
However, Waste Pro said garbage collection schedules will remain the same. Garbage will be collected twice a week on the same day schedule.
Waste Pro also said if residents do not have a Waste Pro trash can, they can call their office for a free replacement that will be delivered to their home. But the cans are limited to one time, per residence.
Garbage collection within Yazoo City will now be handled by an automated side loader, which is a garbage truck that has a mechanical arm with an automated lift that reaches out to the side of the truck and grabs a residential garbage container.
With the new collection system, there are new rules and requirements involved for residents. There needs to be three feet of clearance on all sides of the trash container. Vehicles are also not to block the containers.
Hazardous waste or contractor generated construction debris is the responsibility of the resident. Hulk waste piles of steel, glass, pipe, concrete or lumber will not be collected.
Piles of loose garbage should be placed inside the container. Loose trash will not be collected.
The city is also asking that residents remove the containers from the curb by midnight of collection day.
