After attempting to avoid a police checkpoint, officers arrested three men in possession of codeine with one suspect possessing a stolen firearm.
Travis Glasper, 29, of 1001 Glasper Lane in Crystal Springs, was charged with possession of schedule II narcotics, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm in the commencement of a crime and DUI.
Venson Mix, 36, of 118 Swan Lake in Jackson, was charged with possession of schedule II narcotics.
And Marcus Mobley, 34, of 2925 Dr. Martin Luther King Dr. in Jackson, was also charged with possession of schedule II narcotics.
Capt. Tilmon Clifton, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said the three men were arrested around 11 p.m. Monday.
“Officers were conducting a driver’s license checkpoint on Broadway when they noticed a vehicle driven my Glasper turn around in an attempt to avoid the checkpoint,” Clifton said.
Clifton said officers quickly stopped Glasper’s vehicle, asking for his driver’s license and insurance. He said they then asked if he had anything illegal inside the vehicle.
“He did admit to having a firearm, which officers retrieved,” Clifton said. “After running the firearm, officers discovered it was reported stolen.”
Glasper also had another firearm in his possession that was cleared by officers, Clifton said.
“Officers then recovered three 20-ounce containers of soda mixed with codeine,” Clifton said. “There was also a baby bottle filled with pure codeine.”
As of press time, no bond had been set on all three suspects.
In other arrest news, T’andre Weekly was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
“Officers made a traffic stop of a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed with its headlights out,” Clifton said. “Weekly gave officers a false name, which led to his arrest. After his arrest, officers discovered he had crack in his possession.”
As of press time, he remained in jail on a $20,000 bond.
