A Yazoo City man turned himself into authorities after he allegedly broke into a home, assaulted his ex-girlfriend, led officers on a chase and fled on foot on Christmas Day.
Kevin Cooper was charged with breaking and entering, domestic violence, simple assault, resisting arrest by evading on foot, resisting arrest by evading in a motor vehicle and presenting false information to a law enforcement officer.
Cpt. William Nevels, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said Cooper allegedly assaulted a female victim after he broke into a home at an apartment complex on Westview Drive.
“There were two females inside the home when he broke the window with an object and made entry inside,” Nevels said. “He assaulted one female, and both females received injuries from the assault and from the glass being shattered. The victims then forced him outside the window.”
Nevels said the suspect then left the scene in a GMC Yukon, which was soon pulled over by officers.
“Once officers made contact with the suspect, he first provided the wrong name,” Nevels said. “Then drove off from the officers, who tried to pull him over on the Willie Morris Parkway.”
Nevels said Copper refused to pull over for officers and soon pulled into the yard of a home, located at 1134 Woodlea Dr.
“He then exited the vehicle and fled on foot,” Nevels said.
Following the chase, Cooper eventually turned himself into authorities.
