A recent routine traffic stop led to an arrest, removing a large amount of fentanyl patches off the streets.
Maurice Smith was charged with possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, no driver’s license, no insurance and littering.
Cpt. William Nevels, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said the arrest stemmed from a routine traffic stop.
“While initiating the stop, officers noticed something being thrown outside of the vehicle’s window,” Nevels said. “Officers soon discovered it was two boxes holding five transdermal systems (patches) each. It was enough to potentially kill ten people.”
Smith was also charged with a misdemeanor amount of marijuana.
